Hands on Healing - Healing by Touch

Hands-on healing, also known as Energy Healing, or Spiritual Healing, has been practiced by all the major cultures for thousands of years. Spiritual Healing is now being used by many practitioners in private practice, including mine, and is also now a part of many NHS hospitals and Hospices. The definition of healing in this instance, when aimed at the self, is the use of the local energetic influence to increase communication between the mind, body and spirit, allowing you to move towards greater clarity, wholeness, health and well-being. Further, to self-healing, is the desire to use that same influence to help consenting others who are looking for the same.

How does 'healing' work?
Healing by Touch of Hands Thankfully, more and more people are trying out and using different forms of energy healing, despite the scientific communities criticism and repeated declaration that we are all suffering from some form of mass hysteria and are chronically delusional. Most now realize that science doesn't have all the answers and people are becoming more proactive about their health decisions and want to learn the centuries old ancient tools of self-healing, for themselves and their families.

One thing I will say; I believe we are all born with the ability to heal, both of ourselves and others. The fact that we don't even think to try, before charging head first into the doctors surgery or chemist, is one of the biggest mistakes of this century.

I would never advocate waiting too long before visiting the doctor though, because that would be foolhardy. When I broke my leg, I went straight to hospital, not to a healer. So, believing in healing does not mean lose all sense of reason. Trusting in healing means you can begin to understand that your health is in direct relation to your mental, emotional and physical wellbeing, and that you hold the power of health and wellness in our own hands.

Self Healing by Touch How do you do healing?
I will describe what I do next, but first I want to make sure you understand it is how I do it. It is only A way to do healing on others, it is not THE way. I did all my healer training with a kind and gentle man, John Quigley, an NFSH healer/trainer. He showed a group of us the NFSH way during our training, and if you want to belong to the NFSH, it is the method they prefer you to use. I have stuck with that, not because I think they have discovered a 'perfect' way to do it, but because I really believe it doesn't matter HOW you do it. The benefit of sticking to a set routine is that everyone that receives healing from a healer will find continuity in the procedure and therefore feel safe and confident in the same structure. Of course, I want anyone who comes here for healing to feel comfortable and confident. For that reason only, I follow the NFSH routine in chair healing (when a healee is sat in a chair), and also in couch healing (when a healee is lying on a couch).

All patients remain clothed, but it is perhaps better to remove overcoat and shoes. Gents may also want to loosen their tie. They will sit in a chair or lie on my therapy couch which is then elevated to a comfortable height for me to work. I can work hands on, or hands off, but most people seem to prefer hands on. I work around the body, first on the chakras, then on the different body areas, starting with the head, shoulders, arms, trunk, hips, legs and feet. Once I've worked my way around your body, I then go back to the chakras and finish.

Healing by Touch of Hands The space in which healing is performed is quite important. It needs to be warm, quiet, or with soft meditative music, aromatically neutral, and free of other distractions like noise and time constraints. The patient should sit or lie without crossing their arms or legs. This means I can reach all areas easily and it allows the energy to flow smoothly through the body.

I agree a finishing move, such as a squeeze of the shoulders, so that if the patient is asleep, or has their eyes closed, they know I have finished and can 'come around' again. Then I ask whoever is guiding my hand to allow me to become a channel for their healing, and to allow the patient to accept whatever healing they are meant to receive for their greater good. This means, the healing is not FROM me, BY me, or IN me, but THROUGH me, from somewhere else.

I sometimes imagine healing energies as water flowing through a pipe, or electrical power flowing along a cable. The healer is just the conduit, not the source. As long as you understand that, then you realize you are not responsible for the outcome and your ego does not get in the way.

I use my hands to apply a very light pressure and ask if that is comfortable. I then explain that they may also feel heat, tingling, cold or nothing at all. There is no right or wrong and not to interpret any sensation as a sign that something is working or not. I am often 'drawn' to areas of pain, or injury, or disease, and tend to spend longer in that area. But I don't think it matters because energy is a 'flowing' phenomenon, meaning that if healing is not needed in the hip, it will flow on to the knee, where it may be needed.

Once finished, I will return to the head area, give the finish signal and thanks for the healing energies, and then break the link with the patient before returning to my seat. The patient can then take whatever time they need to come around and go on with their day.

Healing by Touch, Babies to Adult How often should I come?
Quite often a problem can be resolved in one session. Typically, however, several sessions may be required, depending on the circumstances of each case. Some chronic conditions need to be treated in a palliative way, on an ongoing basis to help prevent further degeneration. Expect to be asked to come weekly to start, and then perhaps less frequently as you improve, and to stop when you no longer need it. This last point is important because I believe it is wrong to allow a patient to potentially become dependant on me, but there is no denying the treatment is very, very relaxing, and so is beneficial whether the patient is ill or not. The relaxation experienced during a healing session can be quite significant and may even last for some time after the session is over.

What if I don't believe? Will it still work for me?
I know I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised how often I get asked this question. It's almost as if the person wants to be healed, but wants to refuse that there could be any power higher than our own, like it's a recognition of weakness, or that it might force them to change the way they think or live. Having faith that you have the inner power to heal yourself in most cases is not a sign of weakness, but of great strength.
So, no you don't have to believe, but the point I often make is this; If you stand in line and get on a bus, you have to at least entertain the notion that it will take you somewhere near where you want to go, otherwise why would you pay for your ticket?

Hands on Healing for all areas of health, wellbeing and balance. You've probably sussed by now that I don't subscribe to all the little 'extras' that get in the way, like rituals and candles and incense, that a lot of healers do. I prefer to keep my treatments clean and pure. See the appointments page for how to give this a try for yourself and your family. I look forward to welcoming you soon where we can talk about a treatment plan structured around your needs. Phil.
